It's time for us to shout about how much we love our local community!!!! This is one of our very favorite things to do, and this month, we want to tell you all about Tay Daliese of Tay Daliese Photo.
Tay hosted a boudoir marathon here at Firebrand last month, and we absolutely loved having her here in our space! She's a total trooper, rolling with some unpredictable crazypants situations that popped up while she was here. We are love her bubbly energy, her uncrushable spirit, and her rockstar photography skillz.
Tay is a couples and boudoir photographer who enjoys mysteries, breakfast foods, & power naps. It's easiest to catch her on Instagram or on her website that, in her own words, she "spend[s] an embarrassing amount of time trying to get just right." (Don't we all??)
And now, we'll let Tay take it away!
1) In one sentence, how would you describe your business?
Tay Daliese Photo is an experience where your photographer's priority is showcasing you in your photos rather than just your smiles.
2) Where were you when you started your business? What led to that moment of deciding "I'm going to take this idea to the next level"?
I got 4 e-mails to shoot weddings in one day after boosting a post on fb from a wedding I loved. I was still in the hobby-esque stage of shooting. I was charging people way less than what I was worth to get people into my portfolio and was experimenting a lot. I sat down, made a mini-business plan and the next day set up my business on legal zoom and got a bank account.
3) Of all the different paths your business could take, what's one place you can see your business in five years?
If everything goes my way I want to eventually own a natural light studio wherever I end up. My current plans don't see me in Kansas City past the next two years. My goal has always been to go full time by 2020. (I work full time for Cerner so it's a little hard for me to get done everything I want.)
4) What is your entrepreneurial superpower?
I book 110% of couples/people I talk to. If I can get myself in front of someone, I can sell myself. I've been described more than once as having "the gift of gab."
Also, the 110% thing is a lie but both brides I didn't book after getting in front of them refer me to all their friends and tell them I'm who they should have hired. I'll take that as a win.
5) What is next for you? Anything big on the horizon? Upcoming events or releases you want to pimp out?
I actually have two things! I'm working with the amazing as heck Annie Austen on a lifestyle blog. I'll be doing a lot of the photos and upkeep of the actual aesthetic of the blog (I code and design in my spare time) so check out www.theaustenadventures.com -- it just launched this week!
Second, people ask about my marathons: I plan on doing another at Firebrand Collective in the spring for those that could not make the deadline this winter! I only have room for 4-5 girls per event so I usually sell out quick.
